What Nicotine Level Should I be using?

Although nicotine levels in cigarettes vary by brand, e-juice has standard quantities across the market. The typical nicotine options are: 0mg/mL, 3mg/mL, 6mg/mL, 12mg/mL, and 18mg/mL. Sometimes you can find concentrations as high as 24mg/mL or even 36mg/mL, depending on the brand or specific flavor. Heavy smokers, or those who use unfiltered cigarettes, typically find that 12-18mg/mL are adequate concentrations to start out with.  Adequate concentrations for regular smokers range from 6-12mg/mL. Sub-ohm vapers tend to stick with 3-6mg/mL concentrations, because the nature of these devices produce larger clouds of vapor with more nicotine per puff. Light smokers (less than 10 cigarettes per day) also find these concentrations to be manageable.

What is Vegetable Glycerin (VG) and Propylene Glycol (PG)?

Vape juice is made up of vegetable glycerin (VG), propylene glycol (PG), flavoring and nicotine if preferred.

You will usually find the following ratios on e-juice bottles: 80/20, 70/30, 60/40, 50/50. The first number is VG and the second number is PG.

Vegetable Glycerin is frequently made from soybean, coconut or palm oils. It is water and alcohol soluble, has a sweet taste and no odor. It is the thicker substance in vape juice. It is also what makes the cloud denser when vaping. Vegetable glycerin is known to give you more of the lung hit as opposed to the throat hit.

Propylene Glycol is certified for use as a food additive and is also one of the components for vape juice. The reason why it serves as the base of e-liquid is that it produces vapor when heated. This substance is colorless and odorless liquid. It has the ability to provide the experience similar to smoking. It enables a similar, yet less harmful sensation. PG is a carrier of flavor and provides the “throat hit”.

E-liquids/Nicotine salts

How much Nicotine is in a Traditional Cigarettes?

The majority of cigarettes contain roughly 9mg of nicotine, but due to the combustion needed to produce the smoke in a cigarette, you are on average only inhaling about 1mg of nicotine per cigarette.

What is Salt Nicotine?

Nicotine Salt is a form of nicotine that is naturally occurring in leaf tobacco and is generally considered to be a more stable form of nicotine vs. traditional freebase nicotine, found in most e-liquids. Ranging in levels between 24-50mg, they are not to be used in "sub-ohm devices" and are made to replicate the feel of the standard combustible cigarette.

Starter kits/mods

With the vape industry growing everyday, this is a very common question amongst many new users looking to start vaping. What is a mech mod?

Mechanical mods are vaporizers with no regulation. The power is drawn from the batteries directly to the coil. Tanks are not recommended for these devices. Ohms law and coil knowledge are strongly recommended for this type of vaping experience. For use by advanced vapers only.

What is the difference between sub-ohm and pod devices?

Sub-ohm devices, also described as high wattage vaporizers are an efficient way to quit smoking. But what leads some to retreat to old habits is the complexity of the average box mod. Pod devices are a much lighter and more portable way of vaping.

Also nicotine is distributed a bit differently through these 2 types of setups. Sub-ohm uses a freebase nicotine that is most commonly found in .3%, .6%, 1.2% and 2.4% nicotine. Pod systems use a salt base nicotine, commonly found in amounts of 2.5%, 3.5% and 5.0% nicotine.

What is the difference between RDA, RDTA and sub-ohm tanks?

An RDA is a rebuildable dripping atomizer. Coils are either hand built or bought pre-made and then installed by the user. You are required to “re-drip” every 3-5 hits.

An RDTA is a rebuildable tank atomizer. You use the same process as an RDA, but it has the refillable convenience of a tank.

A sub-ohm tank has pre made coils or atomizers that are convenient to replace. They are easy to refill and much more user friendly for the average vaper.

Device Maintenance

How do I know my batteries are bad?

The standard life on batteries are about 6-12 months. You will start to notice that your battery life won’t last as long. If you notice the positive side or the negative side are dented, cracked, or broken, we recommend you replace them. If your battery wraps or positive insulator are ripped or missing, we recommend you replace the insulator and get the battery rewrapped.  Buying new batteries is another option. Always keep your batteries married.

How do I clean my device?

Sub-ohm tanks and RDAs are very easy to clean. Just remove the tank or RDA from the device, then remove the coil and run the tank/RDA under lukewarm water, with the air flow open. Wipe it down with a paper towel and make sure it is completely dry. Double check to make sure the 510 connection is dry before screwing the tank/RDA back on your device. Some like to use q-tips to ensure a brand new spick and span flavor out of their clean tank or RDA

When should I change my atomizer/coil?

The standard life for most atomizers/coils is about 2-3 weeks. You will start to notice the flavor isn’t as potent and that the coil is starting to taste burnt. Your e-liquid in your tank may even change to a darker color.  In pod devices the coil life ranges between 5-14 days.

What do I do when my glass breaks?

In this industry, there are alot of vapers who use Sub-Ohm Tanks. One of the downsides to these tanks is when your glass breaks. Fortunately, the vast majority of tanks come with spare glass in the box, or have glass available for purchase at your local Vape Shop or online. We recommend you purchase a vape band or two, which is put over your glass, to protect your tank as much as possible.

What is the best way to charge my external batteries?

Although it is not recommended in the industry, most Vape devices have built in micro-USB ports for charging and firmware updates. Unfortunately, most built in charging ports cannot charge both batteries to 100%.  This causes one battery to hold a memory that it is fully charged when it isn’t, which will lead to an uneven discharge rate.  It is highly recommended to pick up an external battery charger, whether it is from Nitecore or Efest to charge your external batteries.
